Springville
Mfg. Co., Inc. was founded in 1958 in Springville, NY. The company
prospered as a precision machine shop for a wide variety of customers
in upstate NY and N.W. Pennsylvania. In the mid 70s it acquired the
IDI line of aluminum tie rod air cylinders. In the early 80s Springville
added it's C Series compact cylinders. By 1987, when the Schmauss
family acquired the company, the product lines were 60% of sales.
A move was made to emphasize product, versus job shop business, with
concentration on "special" custom designed cylinders to
meet customers' specific needs. Due to the success of our "specials",
the Silver Bullet™ and Plural Power™ lines were launched
in the late 90s. The sales mix now is over 90% product and less than
10% contract machine work. The machine shop work is primarily in close
tolerance aerospace components requiring compliance with stringent
Mil-Stds and a recognized quality assurance program. These same standards
are applied in the design, production and testing of our products.
Springville Air Cylinders are sold country-wide and in Canada and
Puerto Rico through and extensive distributor network of over sixty
fluid power organizations.
The Springville management staff has a tenure in excess of eighteen
years. The overall organization of over thirty employees, working
in a neat twenty two thousand square foot facility, averages over
eleven years seniority. Since Dan and his family acquired the company,
more than three-million dollars has been invested in new equipment,
buildings and improvements. A 12,000 square foot expansion was completed
in March 2000.
The company strategy is to continue to support its standard cylinder
line customers with exceptional quality and service, while expanding
"special" offerings made possible by it's flexibility and
ability to design and produce prototypes and subsequent production
